A colliery town with Roman roots

Rossington's history goes back to Roman times, with the remains of a fort and pottery kilns found nearby, and Rossington Bridge was once a staging post on the Great North Road. Old Rossington, around St Michael's Church, still has that older village character.
New Rossington grew with Rossington Main Colliery, sunk between 1912 and 1915 and closed for good in 2007. The East Coast Main Line still separates the old and new villages, and much of the town's housing dates from the mining era - solid, affordable stock for landlords in a town of around 13,600 people.
Today Rossington is one of Doncaster's growth areas. New homes have been built on the former colliery site, the iPort hub has brought new jobs, and the Great Yorkshire Way connects the town to the M18 - good news for rental demand, and for serviced accommodation aimed at contractors and visiting workers.
