Barlborough is recorded in the Domesday Book, and its grandest building is Barlborough Hall, built around 1583-84 for Francis Rodes, a judge involved in the trial of Mary, Queen of Scots. Stone cottages and the Church of St James the Great give the village real period character.
The M1 arrived in 1967, when the Pinxton to Barlborough section opened, and the village has been a well-connected place to live ever since. Business parks around junction 30, including Barlborough Links, bring employers to the doorstep, while Sheffield and Chesterfield are a short drive away.
